Let's come together in peaceful protest to express community dissent to placing #MeTooMarilyn statue on Museum Way
Placing a hyper-sexualized, misogynist statue of Marilyn Monroe at the entrance to the elegant Palm Springs Art Museum sends a message to the community, its visitors (especially young, innocent children), and tourists that this somehow represents “the real Marilyn,” a Marilyn she would have been proud to see celebrated.
Well, it’s not. In fact, it’s the opposite.
She wanted to be taken seriously as an artist and not just a sexual icon. We join together in asking the City of Palm Springs to venerate—not defile—her memory.
We challenge Palm Springs to find more appropriate ways to honor her memory and the true legacy of Marilyn Monroe. Join us in person to make our voices heard.
WHEN: Friday, April 30th at 10am PT
WHERE: At the Marilyn statue base on Museum Way near Belardo Road
Palm Springs Art Museum, 101 N. Museum Dr., Palm Springs, CA 92262
Organized by CReMA: Committee to Relocate Marilyn joining forces with the change.org/metoomarilyn group and the Women’s Issues Committee of the Courageous Resistance of the Desert / Indivisible 36
Masks and social distance required. ACLU guidelines for peaceful protest will be followed.
