LenaMaye Myers started this petition to Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant USEC

The Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PGDP) is a facility located in McCracken County, Kentucky, near Paducah, Kentucky that produced enriched uranium  1952–2013. It is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

The PGDP was the only operating uranium enrichment facility in the United States in the period 2001–2010.

The Paducah plant produced low-enriched uranium, originally as feedstock for military reactors, weapons and later for nuclear power fuel.

Plant operations have contaminated the site over time. The primary contamination of concern is trichloroethylene (TCE), which was a commonly used degreaser at the site. TCE leaked and contaminated groundwater on and off the site.

The groundwater is also contaminated with trace amounts of technetium-99, a radioactive fission product; Other site contaminants include polychlorinated biphenyl (PCBs). Through normal operations, portions of the plant, primarily process equipment, are contaminated with uranium.

In 1988, TCE and trace amounts of technetium-99 were found in the drinking water wells of residences located near the plant site in McCracken County, Kentucky.

To protect human health, the Department of Energy provided city water at no cost to the affected residents, and continues to do so..

From 1952 through 1988 not only was our ground water contaminated but our soil as well.  We planted our gardens, drank from our wells, Not only swam in the creeks but caught different kinds of fish and consumed the fish that was caught .

Unbeknown to us, we as a community was slowly being poisoned

Different animals with mutations.  I as a child witnessed a bird dog had a litter of pups.  She had 10 pups and not a one had a head.  Paternal grandparents had a chicken with 4 legs.  Animals on game reserve that glowed in dark.

This not only affected the animals but we as humans as well. Cancer rates way higher than normal. Autoimmune diseases induced by environmental factors.

Chronic fatigue, skin rashes, strokes, canker sores, headaches, seizures.  I lost 5 immediate members of my family to cancer.  My mother, 3 aunts and an uncle. A two year old was diagnosed with prostate cancer  having to have surgery.  Friends, neighbors and family continues to battle Lupus, MS, and various cancers.

Esophageal, Breast , Bone, Brain , Cervical, Stomach, Colon, Pancreatic, Bladder, Skin. All these cancers plus others we dealt with.

We as a community have lost very dear friends, neighbors and family.  We are still paying the price for the contamination that occurred.

We as a community should be reimbursed for not only our pain and suffering but our medical treatment and bills as well
