You Did It

Friends, as many of you are aware, Heather Knight announced her resignation recently effective January 8, 2017. I can only speak for myself, but I heard from many of you after our collective petition, student activism, and even faculty letters to the Board seemed to fall on deaf ears or even derision from some in the administration. It seemed that nothing was going to change and Dr. Knight would remain president with no substantial changes being made in regards to transparency, accountability, and academic freedom and that Dr. Fulton's tenure at PUC was finished. Dr. Fulton, sadly, was not re-signed by PUC, but as we've been reminded by President Obama in the last month 'history sometimes zigs and zags and moves in ways that some people think is progress and others think is stagnation. We try really hard to persuade people that we're right and if we lose, we learn from our mistakes and do some reflection. We lick our wounds, brush ourselves off and try even harder.' What we thought in May and June was zigging has now zagged today. Correlation doesn't equal causation, but I can't help but feel that the combination of everyone: alumni, students, parents, faculty, and donors making an effort to let PUC and PUC's Board know that what was happening needed a course correction is responsible in large part to Heather Knight's resignation. None of what has happened at PUC was possible without all of you. Thanks to all of you for patiently reading these posts and taking time out of your lives to send letters, make phone calls, give feedback, and support. As Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
