Response To Negative Critsism

I feel as though this shouldn't need to be said as most of this information is either stated or obviously implied within the description of this petition. However most of the negative criticism i have received regarding this petition and what it aims to achieve is people assuming that the end goal here is to allow anybody to bring any form of weapon to all pop culture conventions, however that is very far from true. The goal here that I along with all the current and future supporters of this petition are looking to achieve is to find a mutually beneficial solution to the current cosplay weapons and props policies at conventions, which unfortunately is an already flawed system, at no intention of the conventions themselves. So we would like to push for a new policy which can benefit both cosplayers and these conventions equally. For anybody who is still unclear or hasn't bothered to read the full description of this petition before criticizing it, This IS NOT a petition to allow metal swords and other weapons which are illegal to posses in public places. This IS a petition to allow cosplayers to, under strict rules resulting in heavy consequences for breaking, attend conventions with all their required accessories (within reason). As one of the suggested possible options, registering any potentially dangerous, however must be legal, accessories, for a fee which to most will seem intense ($30-40 perhaps) will achieve most of what the petition, its supporter and the conventions all want, a safe, fun and happy environment. Now I must let you know that any of the suggestions in this are purely suggestions, but I'll say in a hypothetical scenario, there could be fine print that states, when you pay for the admission of your prop, that any damages to the prop are your responsibility, not the cons, also, have another fine print stating that by paying for your props entry you take any and all responsibility for any injuries that may occur as a result of it, not the con (although I will admit that this may not be something you can legally put in a waver like this, i'm not completly sure, thats why this is a hypothetical solution), so people can't sue the convention for someone accidentally hurting someone else because they were being reckless, unless that prop shouldn't have legally been allowed entry. If this was implemented I feel as though it may persuade the cons to consider these rules and persuade people to be more careful with their props as they know they'll be held responsible. Also with the issue of where the registration of the props fees go, there are many options for what the cons could do, they could potentially: A) Donate it to a charity that means something special to them in conjunction with the con Or B) Reinvest the funds into the con to make the experience even better for the fans, like potentially getting more high class guests or panels, making their cons bigger and better, then in turn bringing in more fans and higher attendance. But that is just a hypothetical suggestion for a solution. So before you critisise that any of the solutions I have suggested wouldn't work just remember that this petition is not looking to encourage these ideas to be used, just as ideas to guide and help persuade any of the conventions considering it, its the message that we want implemented, in the safest way possible. The last thing I'll say here is that after debating this with many people I would like to explain just how the weapons and props regestration system would make the conventions safer. To keep just anyone from coming in with dangerous weapons and hopefully cut down the number of weapons brought into the cons altogether, cut down numbers of accidents and cut down the number of people bringing in weapons just to be reckless and dangerous with them, they could use this system of charging an additional fee for anyone wanting to bring in any prop or replica, as long as it isn't illegal or contain sharp metal or actively fire anything, ect.. Take away the ease to bring in any weapons, change the rules to be that only people dressed in cosplay can bring in props and replicas and have to pay $30-$40 to get those props in, to most that will be too much of a hassle and too expensive and not bring them, but the people who are serious about it will be willing to go through that, this will result in substantially less weapons overall as well as less accidents and less people acting dangerous and reckless with potentially dangerous weapons, and leave only the dedicated fan who are serious about cosplaying.
