Update with new data for 2020, how to find your local Sewage Treatment Works (STW) and a video request.

The situation has got worse: in 2019 we thought 314 of Thames Water's STWs were spilling raw sewage into the river Thames or its tributaries. We now know there were at least 418 works spilling in 2020, and the average spill from each one has got worse; the average Thames works spilled for 289 hours in 2019, but 461 hours in 2020 - nearly 9 hours a week. The number of STWs in the Thames area spilling for more than 10 hours a week has doubled from 62 to 129. Oxford STW, which is supposed to treat all the sewage from 230,000 people, now spills raw sewage for 35 hours a week.

The website to find your local STW is the Rivers Trust's "Is my river fit to play in?" at https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/e834e261b53740eba2fe6736e37bbc7b/

Look at the video, research your STW, then make a short film (less than a minute), and send it to me at mark.northox@gmail.com.
