Hi everyone, I'd like to thank you so much for your support. We couldn't have done this without you. We've past 6,000 signatures and we will keep rolling in 2025.
We know it can be disheartening to hear stories like the one below, but we'd like you to share the petition to just one person, if you haven't already. We might not be able to get the outcome we want right away, but we can continue to educate and spread awareness.
The cute little brushtail possum in the petition photo was Fudge.
She was bright and alert on coming into care with the incredible team at Hamilton Wildlife Shelter. Over the next few days blood began to come from her nose at random times. That was the first sign. Then came the pale nose, paws, unwillingness to drink, lethargy. She then died. She died from catastrophic internal bleeding caused by drinking milk given to her by her mother who was suffering with fatal rodenticide toxicity. The best treatment available didn't work because by time the animal comes into care death is often a forgone conclusion of the poison. Try as they might Shelly and her wildlife team couldn't save her.
Wildlife carers have been begging Australians to stop using rat poisons, (primarily anti-coagulant rodenticides) for years but there doesn't seem to be any real change in behaviour. The future for animals that encounter these baits is bleak.
We know it's incredibly disheartening to see the destruction of such magical creatures when the cause is so preventable and the death so horrific.
Please talk to your neighbours and friends about the cruelty of causing any creature to bleed to death, and don't forget to share the petition to just one person today.
Rest easy Fudge
