I received a response via email from OTH Deputy Director for Communications, Ms. Veronica Yong.
In the email, she apologised for the delay they took in responding. She then went on to share the following regarding OTH screening policy and what they will be doing moving forward.
Below is the excerpt from the email that explains the position of OTH:
"OTH screens only films which had been classified General (G) or Parental Guidance (PG) by IMDA. Nonetheless, we agree that not all PG rated films would be suitable for children, given their different age range. We have removed the particular film that you had surfaced to us from our playlist. Moving forward, we are exploring designated time slots for different movies to ensure content suitability for our patrons.
Since reaching out to you on 25 October 2019, we hope this latest explanation will enable you to understand our position. We continue to be available for communication through our Public Service Centre and the OTH Facebook. Thank you for your understanding."
It is still unclear what sort of criteria they will adopt moving forward with regard to PG films being screened in public areas.
The OTH Movie Schedule, which I saw last Wednesday, posted next to their information counter also does not indicate which movies are G or PG.
As highlighted in our letter to MCCY (OTH's parent ministry) and MCI, it is not right to assume that children will always be accompanied by parents in a community space like OTH and neither should such a community space expect all children to be accompanied by parents or an adult at all times.
There has been thus far no response still from the recipients of the letter sent last Monday, 28 October.
