According to CBC news. We have some good and bad news. Good news is the situation will improve after this year. Bad news is this year will be extra hard.
The city is procuring 11 used diesel busses and hoping to receive 50 diesel busses later this year and into early 2027. Electric busses will grow to 234 in total by the end of 2026.
OCTranspo has 330 articulated busses and 44 non articulated busses are all >=20 years of age. The expected useful life is only 15 years.
OCTranspo Troy Carter said recently that "..reliability just take time to implement". They had 20 years (age of bus fleet) to prepare for the next round of busses and they still don't have them. There is no excuse. The city and OCTranspo have failed us.
Transit riders have always been neglected for the sufferings we endure on a daily basis. Nothing we complained about transit generated real improvements. THAT IS NOT OK.
Busses are part of the critical transportation infrastructure to residents and businesses. They are as essential to people as access to clean water, electricity and food. When access to these daily essentials are restricted, WE HAVE AN EMERGENCY.
Years of underfunding, mismanagement and neglect to this critical infrastructure is UNACCEPTABLE. We need to speak louder and fight harder!!
We haven't reached our goal for signatures this week but we are on the right track in drawing attention. Keep the good work up in sharing! I encourage you to share your transit story in the comment section.
My family and I have been sick all week. We wish you all stay warm and stay safe this weekend.
