A petition for Oswestry Town Council / Shropshire County Council to provide free parking in Oswestry. This serves as a bid to revive the rapidly deteriorating town centre.

With an increasing number of out of town retail establishments being constructed, local town businesses are finding daily survival increasingly more difficult. The town centre is now home to many lifeless, derelict shops and the streets are becoming increasingly more quiet and eerie. Once a bustling little market town, Oswestry's charming side streets, packed with small local businesses have the potential to become competitive, central shopping hubs once again. 

The local councils have continued to give way to large, international retailers, providing permission for them to build and build out of the town centre. This in effect is strangling the town centre, along with all the businesses inside. Of course, it is fair to accept that such large retailers provide "healthy" competition and allow consumer access to more cost effective goods, but what if the balance is tipped too far?!

Oswestry is now facing this exact issue and it is time that the local council/s helped to revive what is left. Free parking is just one example of an initiative that may help to achieve this and we want to ensure that the local councils do everything they can to rejuvenate this wonderful town centre.
