By signing this petition you are opposing the proposal set out by SOWSA. Their key objective is "to bring together all stakeholders involved in open water swimming including open water swimmers, swim coaches, event organisers, boat pilots, health and safety professionals, land owners, local and national tourism bodies, and relevant heritage and conservation bodies into one body with the aim of promoting and growing safe open water swimming in Scotland".  The key concerns are:

  1. This proposal could detrimentally effect swimmers free access rights to Scottish inland waters. If they are to regulate "organised events" could this include informal groups who organise their own swims who might then have to pay?
  2. Lack of transparency.  The proposal has not been widely advertised until now (two week before the end of the 3 month consultation period).
  3. There is a potential conflict of interest. If this goes ahead certain "stakeholders" could benefit financially.
