Stop Orillia Power from Selling Distribution Corp to Hydro One

Stop Orillia Power from Selling Distribution Corp to Hydro One
The Issue
Orillia City Council is considering a deal with Hydro One. While the deal provides some economic benefit (real estate purchase, and possibly future jobs), handing over (ie: selling) the Orillia Power Distribution Corp. to Hydro One is part of the deal.
I don't imagine anyone has much issue with the sale of land or property, but why the distribution portion of Orillia Power has to be included is the real issue. Yes, there may be financial benefit, but who exactly will benefit from this? The citizens who have to pay the monthly distribution charges? NO. Asking people that live outside of Orillia what their distribution fees are with H1 the result is that it is far more than what we currently pay here in town. Hydro One cannot be trusted.
The City is thinking with their pocketbooks and calculators, and not considering the effect the sale will have on the monthly power bills of it's residents. Can Hydro One guarantee the same delivery service for the same rates as those scheduled (on the 2016 manifest) by Orillia Power?
I (and probably many citizens) am ultimately against this. I do not want Hydro One delivering my power to me. Orillia Power Distribution Corp. is ours - we will stick with them.
Why the City wants to outsource OUR (citizens - the people who pay the taxes here own these resources just as much as the City of Orillia does) resources to an outside source is less than understandable.
Please sign our petition if you are a citizen of Orillia and don't want Orillia Power's distribution service to be handled by Hydro One.
