My Children, My Choice - No on Oregon HB3063
The Issue
Oregonians vehemently oppose any legislation that strip us of our right to freedom, consent or choice.
Oregon HB 3063- A bill seeking to make vaccinations mandatory for any child who is to attend public/private schools.
HB 3063 is taking our right to consent away; it is taking our right to choose away.
HB 3063 puts thousands of vulnerable children at risk of injury in the name of public health. This bill is a push to provide a blanket solution, a one-size fits all approach to an infection. History has proven that blanket solutions are never victim-less. Proponents of House Bill 3063 are on the wrong side of history. HB 3063 is discriminatory, negatively impacting more than 31,000 Oregon children, many of them medically fragile. This bill also grants the Oregon Health Authority unrestricted control over families while compromising the physician/patient relationship.
This bill leaves Oregonians wondering why are lawmakers are acting as physicians and signing Oregon children up for prescriptions without knowing their health issues? Without the proper research being done. Many lawmakers are old enough that they have not had nearly the amount of vaccinations that the children of today are required to receive.
The OHA estimates the fiscal impact of this measure to be $100,000 General Fund for the 2019-21 biennium- I beg you to reconsider this cost as a whole. Consider the annual cost of tracking the data (something we learned from the Oregon Cannabis Tracking System), the additional cost of new state employee wages and benefits- for those that will be tasked with gathering and compiling and monitoring the data.
Consider the financial impact newly unemployed parents will have on Oregon’s economy as well as the states assistance funds- many parents will be forced to leave their jobs and close businesses in order to keep their children home and home school. Think about the unforeseen cost for a school system already struggling with budgetary constraints, when even half of the 31,000 plus students leave school. HB 3063 will have far reaching unintended consequences for Oregon if passed into law.
Who will benefit from the passage of HB 3063? Merck, Pfizer, Sanofi Pasteur and other pharmaceutical companies that produce vaccines- their growth over the past 4 quarters has been stunning- This is more Oregon money that will be leaving the state. Passing HB 3063 ensures that all Oregonians fund these companies permanently. Remember HB 3063 is open ended, meaning the law is the law, no matter how many vaccines are added to the recommended schedule.
We need to Defend Oregon's core values- Defend Healthcare, Defend Education and most importantly defend Choice. What is the point of teaching our children MY BODY MY CHOICE when their right to consent is stripped away as well as their parents? Why are the voices of the parents of over 31,000 children going unheard?
If HB 3063 passes, what rights will be stripped away from Oregonians next? Women's Reproductive Rights? Our right to purchase and possess firearms?
