Dear Start Time Working Group and supporters
It's been a long road leading to the board finally putting later start times to vote this Wednesday, Nov 2. Thank you for all the letters to the board, time and effort you have spent over the last two years. One last push to the finish line:
Are you willing to come and speak in support of later start times in the public comments at 7:00 p.m. this Wednesday?
We need to focus on the original problem: The current start times are scheduled during a typical adolescent's sleep time. All the other arguments and concerns and anecdotes are really irrelevant to that fact. The school board needs to be reminded one last time that since they are the ones that set the start times, it is up to them to fix the problem by voting to start school later. We need to focus on the problem we are asking them to solve. Let's remind them to not go down the rabbit holes that can keep them from making a sound policy decision!
Remember we need to tell them that the evidence shows that adolescent brains change and we cannot alter their sleep patterns to fit our desired schedule. The school start times need to change to meet their physical needs.
Thanks.
