Tonight during the public forum along with a handful of others who support our cause, I spoke on behalf of everyone who has signed this petition. I read the petition along with some of your comments that demonstrate our passion for these trails and preserving them responsibly. I then pointed to the article in OC Parks website that provides information regarding unauthorized trails and the agreements they base their destructive actions on. In this agreement "Natural Community Conservation Plan and Habitat Conservation Plan" it states that the "adaptive management program will protect the environment while providing for economic uses that will meet the social and economic needs of the people in the subregion". I am paraphrasing a little but this is actual verbiage from this document. I then referenced an article published in April 2020 by Globe Newswire that forecasts the mountain bike industry to grow by $2.5b over the next 4 years. Having more trails in Laguna Canyon will meet the social and economic needs of the people in the subregion. I wish I had more time but it took my entire allotment of 3 minutes and then some to get that all out. Overall, we made some compelling arguments but this will not be an easy task as the first half of the public forum had people that were more or less our opposition. We cannot stop now, we will keep riding and keep fighting for our trails.
