Alex Nuttall, the Mayor of Barrie, has claimed that the letter he's co-signed represents "2.6 million Ontarians."
But we know that none of these mayors consulted with their Councils, let alone with the public — which Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff has fully admitted.
How do 13 individual mayors, who did zero consultation, get to claim that they represent the will of millions of Ontarians? Moreover, how can 13 individual mayors even have the power or ability to request the removal of homeless people's right to life?
It's undemocratic, unconstitutional, and frankly, un-Canadian.
Our time is limited to show these mayors and Premier Doug Ford that people like you and me won't stand for such an abuse of the Charter to harm our unhoused neighbours.
If you can, continue to sign and share this petition! And stay tuned for an op-ed, and an action from local Councillors!

PS — Many thanks to the Guelph residents last night who questioned Mayor Cam Guthrie about his willingness to abuse the notwithstanding clause to harm homeless people. Together, we can hold these mayors and the Premier accountable!
