As a new owner of an EV, i chose to go sustainable. But now the government want to introduce a pay per mile tax. This will primarily be based on the number of miles you declare on your car insurance. For me as an EV driver, its 3p per mile.
That might sound like nothing, but when you add it up, £0.03 x 7500 = £225 more as an addition to the annual road tax. Making driving on the roads £425 a year with road tax always increasing, and no doubt so will the pay per mile tax.
This doesn't just affect EV drivers! Petrol and hybrid come in to this as well at 1.5p per mile. Then there is the driveway tax. If you have a driveway, private or rented, you will basically be charged a pay per mile on that as well at a standing rate of 1.52p per mile... just for having a driveway. So lets do the maths:
Drive 7500 miles at 3p per mile

Driveway at 7500 miles at 1.52p per mile
