1,065 permanent, hard-surfaced parking spaces sounds like a lot and it is: bigger than any other car park for miles around, comparable to 4 standard-size Tesco or 10 Aldi car parks.
Using a variety of sources including previous planning applications, here’s a list of nearby large car parking facilities to show how Lyme’s plans compare, including EV charging and cycle stands where possible:
- Tesco Extra Stockport - approx 600-650 spaces (15 cycle stands)
- Morrisons Bredbury - 506
- Sainsbury’s Hazel Grove - 456 (15 cycle stands)
- Hazel Grove Park and Ride - 400 (15 cycle sands)
- Tesco Glossop - 290
- Tesco Whaley Bridge - 249 (4 EV, 6 cycle stands)
- Asda Marple - 200 (5 cycle stands)
- Aldi Hazel Grove - 175 (4 cycle stands)
- Aldi Bakewell - 106 (6 cycle stands)
- Lidl Cheadle Heath (Proposed) - 100 (4 EV, 6 cycle stands)
- RHS Bridgewater - 500? (50 cycle stands)
- Chatsworth - approx 675
- Lyme Park (Proposed) - 1,065 (no EV, 8 cycle stands)
As you can see, the proposal for Lyme is astonishingly big — four times the large Tesco supermarket at Whaley Bridge. That huge Tesco Extra beside the M60 in Stockport must be bigger, surely? No, that’s only around 650 cars — Lyme’s would hold 50% more cars!
