Success! Over 400 Signatures! Let's Kick The SRU To The Curb
As my friend Melanie Copeland said '' We just want a tiny house on wheels on our own land so we can raise some darn chickens and have it not be classified as a recreational vehicle and not to have to live under the radar in fear of eviction''.
She did it! Read more about her story in Trail Blazing Tiny: A Guide To Breaking Free.
What I and others want the tiny house industry to know is many of us tried every possible way to communicate to both ICC and THIA, before we were forced to bring this battle into the public eye. Nothing worked and many of us tried for years.
This is not Tiny House Alliance USA versus THIA, this is not a battle that we are asking you to choose sides, there should be NO Sides.
I am angry, in fact furious. We have a housing crisis with no end in sight, and there are advocates that have been fighting for tiny houses on wheels in battles with jurisdictions all over the country that have taken more than 5 years, some have been successful, and some are still in the trenches.
It is wheels under a structure, not Godzilla coming down the road. Enough already. Cities are finding seniors living in cardboard boxes, people are being priced out of their apartments because of the increase in rent they cannot already afford. What is the hope for our youth?
Sweet elderly women call me and say I have nowhere to go, so they go move in their car- if they even have one, every day there is a new story, and the advocates are beat to death with the stress of it all, because the boulders keep coming at us and we do not have solutions yet, and the solutions we did have were crushed by ICC and THIA.
We want to walk away. We don't. Little blessings keep us going.
The new face of homelessness is the working poor that cannot afford a roof over their head that could be working 2 or 3 jobs, or they became homeless because of a health crisis, or because they did not have any support system.
And God Bless the small artisan tiny house builders with all the stress they are under with a shortage of skilled workers, the price and lack of materials, no financing, a frightened economy afraid to spend money, no zoning, the scammers stealing all their photos, and now tariffs, and they hang in there for another day to make another tiny house dream come true.
So NO -We Are NOT Bending The Knee To ICC - With Another None Solution With The Small Residential Unit
Tonight I will send ICC our signatures and my letter. Thank you so much for signing, sharing, and chipping in for more shares.
I will keep you posted on here, and I plan to appeal if they do not remove the hijacking of the Small Residential Unit out of the standard. Let's get the standard turned back around to focus on chassis provisions for tiny houses.
Thank You!
