A Parish Council Committee meeting was held yesterday to discuss changes to the draft TP Ordinance No 24-19, the ordinance that will govern how C and D landfill applications are applied for in Tangipahoa Parish. The changes were requested by the company that is applying for the permit and would serve to ease their burden and limit the Parish's ability to review and approve the permit. They also requested that required bond amounts be reduced from their current $2M. Ultimately, the committee chose to send the matter to a sub-committee and invited the applicant company, but no public, to attend. We can only imagine what will become of that sub-committee meeting.
Now is the time to email your council and express your opposition to these landfills. Otherwise, you and your children will be the ones that have to endure the results. One email will reach all the members at: council@tangipahoa.org
Here is some information showing the hazardous contaminants found in C and D Landfills.
