The Issue

Our hearts are forever shattered by the loss of two beloved members of our community, Jessica Rabe and Yudistan Pillay. As residents of Boksburg, Dalpark, Van Dyk Park, and the surrounding communities, we are devastated by this tragedy that has affected every corner of our lives. These young people, who grew up playing alongside our own children, were cruelly taken from us in a heinous act of violence that we cannot comprehend.

Jessica and Yudistan were more than just names; they were friends, siblings, and vital parts of our tight-knit community. Losing them in such a senseless manner has intensified our fears for our children and grandchildren, who now face a world where safety seems increasingly elusive. This community, once vibrant and full of life, is now overshadowed by grief and insecurity.

We write to you with heavy hearts and implore the magistrate of Boksburg Magistrate’s Court to consider the weight of this tragedy during the bail proceedings for the accused. Granting bail in this case would not only undermine our sense of justice but also introduce significant risk to our community. These accused individuals were once trusted peers of Jessica and Yudistan, and the trauma caused by their alleged actions has left our community reeling.

Statistics indicate that nearly 45% of violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders on bail, according to recent reports from the South African Police Service. This alarming data creates a justifiable fear that allowing bail could potentially lead to further harm.

We seek justice and security for our community, a place where our children can play safely, where we do not live in constant fear of sending them outside, where tragic losses such as these are no longer a grim reality. By denying bail, the court has an opportunity to show its commitment to safeguarding our community.

Our request is not just about seeking accountability; it's about restoring a semblance of safety and trust. We ask for your compassion and understanding to honor Jessica's and Yudistan's memory by ensuring justice is served swiftly and decisively.

That is why we call upon every resident of Boksburg, Dalpark, Van Dyk Park, and beyond, who have felt the ripples of this tragedy, to join us in signing this petition. Your signature represents a step towards healing our community and reaffirming justice for all victims of violence. Stand with us today to protect our children and secure the future safety of our neighborhoods by opposing bail for the accused. Sign this petition and help us make our collective voice heard.
