Hi all, I wanted to let you know that we now have 64 signatures on this petition. Thank you so much for your support!
🐾 Operation Blue Paws is about more than saving dogs. It's about protecting women, veterans, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable individuals who live alone and may face domestic abuse, stalking, harassment, intimidation, or coercive control in their own homes. Everyone deserves to feel safe where they live, even when they're alone.
The vision is to establish a voluntary protective-dog program using professional, police K9-informed training adapted for civilian safety. These dogs would work alongside their handlers to provide an additional layer of protection until 911 responders arrive. Police, firefighters, paramedics, handlers, and dogs would be trained to work together. A designated disengagement command would signal to the dog that authorized responders are taking over, helping ensure a safer transition for everyone involved.
🐕 No dog? No problem. Operation Blue Paws would partner with animal shelters to identify suitable dogs for professional assessment and training, giving eligible individuals access to a protective companion while offering suitable shelter dogs a second chance.
💙 The program would seek funding for training, veterinary care, and ongoing support, with free or subsidized access for eligible veterans, crime victims, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable individuals.
🇨🇦 Starting in Alberta, the goal is to expand across Canada through partnerships with police, fire and EMS services, shelters, trainers, veterinarians, and government agencies. This is not about replacing 911 or encouraging unnecessary aggression. It's about responsible training, coordinated emergency response, animal welfare, and giving vulnerable people another layer of protection. Protect the person. Protect the dog. Protect each other.🐾 Please sign and share this petition to help make Operation Blue Paws a reality.
