Recently we’ve had several of the “players” in our so called fishery management express to us that our fight for equality and transparency could end up ruining everything.
They say “Don’t rock the boat”. “Don’t make waves, or “Don’t piss anybody off”.
They try to justify their positions by explaining that things aren’t that bad. That things could get worse. That we’re lucky we get to fish at all.
Well, our answer to them is BS!
It is because of attitudes like that our fisheries are in the miserable condition that they are! It’s because the current management culture is full of spineless hacks who spend more time patting each other on the backs than they do representing the citizen sportsmen of this state.
Things are NOT getting better. And they will not get better as long as we have Commissioners and Directors and Managers who are motivated by politics and influence rather than fortitude and a strong moral compass.
We will not apologize for taking the fight for equality and transparency to whomever opposes it. And we will never back off because we might piss someone off.
We believe that whenever rules, policies and laws are created and agreed to, they should be done in the open, transparent and free for all to see!
The Commission could mandate open meetings by simply including it in the North of Falcon Policy. All it takes is a simply majority vote. So why won’t they. The better question is, who’s interest are they really representing.
Commissioner Carpenter told us he supports transparency, yet he’s done nothing to bring it about. That is exactly the kind of results not rocking the boat brings.
WE WILL NOT GO AWAY, WE ARE JUST GETTING STRONGER.
LET’S GET THIS BOAT ROCKING!!
