Update: We need a big push before 29 April!

Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared this open letter so far. Your support is helping to show the strength of feeling across our community.
The University Court will meet on 29 April to decide whether to proceed with the proposals put forward by the senior management team. This makes the next few weeks absolutely critical. If we want our collective voice to be heard ahead of that decision, we need as many signatures as possible.
Please share this letter widely, with colleagues, students, alumni, and anyone connected to the University. Personal messages and direct sharing make a real difference.
There are also other important ways you can take action:
- Support UCU strike action: Members of Aberdeen University and College Union will be taking 10 days of strike action in April. You can find updates and ways to support here: https://aberdeen.web.ucu.org.uk/
- Contact University Court members directly: Let them know your concerns and ask them to carefully consider the impact of these proposals: https://www.abdn.ac.uk/about/strategy-and-governance/court-members/
- Contact your elected representatives:
- You can find and email your MP here: https://members.parliament.uk/FindYourMP
- As we are currently in the pre-election period (purdah) for the Scottish Parliament Elections, you can contact MSP candidates rather than sitting MSPs.
- You can see constituency candidates here: https://whocanivotefor.co.uk/elections/sp.c.2026-05-07/scottish-parliament-elections-constituencies/
- You can see regional list candidates here: https://whocanivotefor.co.uk/elections/sp.r.2026-05-07/scottish-parliament-elections-regions/
- When contacting MPs or MSP candidates, briefly explain your connection to the University, why these proposals matter to you, and ask them to raise concerns publicly or with the University.
This is a critical time for the future of the University. Every signature, every email, and every conversation helps build pressure for a more sustainable, community-led approach.
Thank you for your continued support.
