FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Watkins: The Other Side of the Story
Today, Saturday (February 22, 2020) at 6:00pm, students from Watkins College of Art will host a pop-up show in Sevier Park in the 12 South area of Nashville. This exhibition will feature portraits of Watkins students, faculty, staff, and alumni along with their stories about life at the school.
Earlier this semester administrators at Watkins announced that after over 130 years of independence, the school will be merging with Belmont University. The school has for many years now fostered a spirit of artistic independence and freethinking, and it has been a crucial voice in the artistic life of Nashville. This exhibition will pay tribute to Watkins and its contributions to the cultural life of the city as well as our hope that this legacy has not come to an end.
Watkins students will host conversations about the school and the importance of art in Nashville and beyond.
This show was organized by students in the Public Art class at Watkins under the direction of Professor Moses Williams.
