Dear Cosigners - WOW! I'm just floored by the response to this letter! I had hoped for maybe 100 cosigners as a stretch goal - we are over 500 and counting! What a great way to let the City of San Jose know that we care about the Alum Rock Park environment.
We now have a unique opportunity to amplify that demand to protect nature at this very special park. The city has two upcoming meetings to discuss their draft vegetation management plan.
- Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 6 - 7 p.m. at the Berryessa Community Center
3050 Berryessa Rd, San José, CA 95132. - Or Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m, Online via Zoom, Register here: https://sanjoseca.zoom.us/meeting/register/7QAmwS__S4aNDk9pLrFiww#/registration
Here is the link for the plan: https://www.sanjoseca.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/122618/638845634869170000 pages 20 to 24 are particularly important.
- This plan does NOT say that herbicides should be used on a limited basis or avoided all together.
- It does NOT specify that fuel reduction work should only be done after bird nesting season has ended.
- It does NOT say that invasive species should be prioritized in fuel removal before native species like oaks are removed.
Make your voice heard! Attend one of the community meetings, and tell the city to amend the plan so that: herbicide use is limited or discouraged, fuel reduction work is done only after bird nesting season is ended, and invasive species should be removed before native species!
Thank you for keeping the good work going!
