A huge thank you to the 250+ citizens who have signed this petition in the last 5 days, which proves the huge level of interest in opening Arlington Dog Parks now.
In that time, the campaign has spoken with the County Board and Parks and Rec Department, and our public officials have politely listened to our appeal, but remain non-committal about when the dog parks will reopen. According to the Washington Post, the County intends to enter Phase 2 this Friday, June 12.
I have asked the County if they will confirm dog parks will be included in Phase 2 (which will allow indoor gyms, indoor restaurants and retail, large gatherings up to 50, museums and zoos etc. to re-open). They have not yet confirmed.
In order to open responsibly and safely, the Shirlington Dog Park sponsor group can use more volunteers who could help with reminding visitors about safe practices at the dog park. Because there is no commitment yet to re-open our dog parks, I am worried the County will leave our dogs out in the cold if we don't make our voices known. Therefore, I ask you to please each take a minute today to email or call both the Department of Parks and Rec and the Arlington County Board at their addresses below, and respectfully ask them to "Please include Arlington Dog Parks in Phase II reopening this Friday!"
