by Cllr Hans Britz and Cllr Tjaart van der Walt - 23 June 2020

Note to editors: The DA Mangaung Caucus held a Media briefing outlining proposals on the Draft IDP and Budget for 20/21. The following statement was delivered by Caucus Leader, Cllr Hardie Viviers, Caucus Chairperson, Cllr David Masoeu, Finance Committee Spokesperson Cllr Hans Britz and Planning and Economic Development Committee spokesperson Cllr Tjaart van der Walt.

The purpose was to inform residents about the handing over of a petition with more than 9700 signatures against the blanket rise of municipal rates and taxes that are in the draft budget.

The DA Mangaung outlines the deficiencies in the budget and IDP process, the inadequate public participation and how the opposition parties are excluded in the budget steering committee. The content and credibility of the draft budget is insubstantial.

The aim was also to share the DA’s input and proposal for a budget that supports economic recovery post Covid 19 lockdown.
