The Issue

Purpose:
We need a justice system that works fairly and consistently for everyone. Currently, there is a widespread perception that outcomes can vary depending on status, wealth, or connections, rather than being based solely on the seriousness of the offence. There are also concerns that strict legal definitions can sometimes lead to disproportionate or unnecessary charges, while loopholes and reductions in sentencing undermine public confidence.

This petition calls for clear, fixed punishments that act as a true deterrent, ensure justice is applied equally, and give sensible flexibility to avoid unfair outcomes — while maintaining proper safeguards.

We ask the UK Government and Parliament to create a system where the same rules apply to every person, no exceptions, no loopholes, and no one is above the law.

✅ 1. PROTECT JUSTICE – END TRIAL‑BY‑MEDIA & PUNISH FALSE ACCUSATIONS

- Restrict reporting before and during trials to prevent speculation, prejudice, and trial‑by‑media, so juries decide only on evidence presented in court.

- After a verdict:

- Guilty: Publish only name, offence, and sentence; with full protection for victims and their families.

- Not guilty: Introduce strong legal safeguards to protect identities from permanent unfair damage, while maintaining public confidence in justice.

- Knowingly breaching these restrictions carries a fixed penalty of 10 years imprisonment and unlimited fines. Media organisations that repeat breaches face a permanent operating ban.

- False accusations: Anyone proven to deliberately lie, fabricate evidence, or make a malicious false accusation faces a fixed sentence of 5 years imprisonment, with no suspended terms or leniency.

✅ 2. FIXED SENTENCING – A TRUE DETERRENT, NO EXTRA BODIES

- All sentences are fixed and written directly into law. There will be no Sentencing Council or similar body to adjust, water down, or rewrite punishments — what is set is clear, final, and unchanging.

- Restore clear discretion to police to make final charging and No Further Action (NFA) decisions for all but the most serious offences. The public interest test remains, but must be applied proportionately, taking full account of the actual severity of injury, fault, and context — not just legal labels.

- Judges may only increase sentences if there are proven aggravating factors. They cannot reduce the sentence below the fixed level for any reason — including wealth, status, connections, “good character”, remorse, background, or personal circumstances.

- No loopholes allowed: No plea‑bargain discounts, no suspended sentences, no automatic early release. Sentences must be served in full, except in the most extreme and publicly explained cases.

📌 GENERAL RULES

- Three‑strikes policy: Each further offence increases the sentence by one level.

- No reductions for personal background, addiction, or hardship — these do not excuse criminal acts.

- Equal justice guaranteed: No lighter treatment for those with money, status, or influence.

✅ 3. PROTECT FREE SPEECH ONLINE – TARGET ONLY REAL HARM

- Clarify laws so that criticism, debate, disagreement, and robust opinions are never criminalised simply because someone finds them offensive. Vague offences of “being offensive” or “causing annoyance” are abolished.

- Only genuine harmful conduct carries fixed penalties:

- Repeated unwanted contact or harassment → 5 years fixed

- Threatening behaviour causing fear for safety → 10 years fixed

- Stalking, doxxing or conduct intended to ruin lives → 15 years fixed

✅ 4. FULL ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ALL PUBLIC OFFICIALS

- The same laws and sentences apply equally to MPs, ministers, civil servants, police, council staff, and all public servants — no exemptions, no special rules, and no lighter treatment.

- Reform expenses: Only essential, receipted work‑related costs may be claimed; no public money for private property, mortgages, or personal profit.

- Ban all gifts, favours, hospitality, or benefits of any kind that could create a conflict of interest.

- Establish an independent, non‑political oversight body with full power to audit and investigate at any time, without warning.

- Strengthen whistleblower protection: Guarantee full anonymity and protection from retaliation; anyone targeting a whistleblower faces 5 years fixed imprisonment.

- Resignation or retirement does not stop investigations, penalties, or recovery of public funds or pensions. Anyone found guilty of wrongdoing loses 100% of their pension and perks forever.
