Pass legislation to increase teacher pay in Oklahoma

The Issue

Oklahoma pays teachers less than any other state in the country. We rank 48th in the country for education. If Oklahoma truly values the education of its students, the current salary of teachers must change to reflect that principle.

Many teachers have reached their breaking point, and many others are close to it. Without a change, our best teachers will have logical reason to leave for better paying states, further reducing the quality of education in our state. Even the teachers who continue to endure will be disgruntled and unhappy with their conditions.

In many schools across Oklahoma, walk-outs are being orchestrated by teachers in order to demonstrate to the state government how serious our education crisis is. These walk outs have become necessary in order to cause a change to be set in motion. While crucial, the walk outs jeopardize the education of our students, as school may not be in session for weeks at a time. AP test preparation, college preparation, and other student activities will be disrupted by the walkouts. We need to make sure our teachers are accommodated before this happens in order to better not only the education of Oklahomans in the future, but also of our current students.

Our goal is to convey to our state legislature just how many students, parents, teachers, and citizens are in support of more sustainable pay for our teachers. Help us to make a difference by signing and sharing this petition!
