Dear Supporters,
On Wednesday, 17th July well-known journalist Shekhar Gupta sent out a misinformed tweet about the Mumbai Coastal Road Project. Here is what he wrote:
Shekhar Gupta (@ShekharGupta) 17/07/19, 5:54 PM
Maximum or not, incredible city Bombay...Activists & courts won’t let a coastal road be built. Lata Mangeshkar won’t let Pedder Road be widened...Then, everybody’ll complain about traffic, lousy infra, tiny airport, rising pollution, living in a dying city blah blah
Here is how one of our petitioners Debi Goenka replied to him : https://twitter.com/mangrovesindia/status/1151691917970722818?s=08
Perhaps Shekhar Gupta has not studied the Coastal Road plans and needs more information.
Here’s what you can do: Help Shekhar understand the issue better. This is important because he’s an influencer whose views can shape public opinion.
Please click on the twitter link here and reply to Shekhar Gupta. Let him know your views on the coastal road, and why this issue is not about activists, but about citizens, people who are most affected by irresponsible development.
The Coastal Road is not the solution to Mumbai’s problems but actually the cause of a potential urban disaster. The way for the future of any smart government is sustainable development not rampant destruction of the nation’s natural resources.
Please tweet today. And please share this with your friends and encourage them to tweet too.
Let’s help Shekhar Gupta get better informed about the coastal road.
We are hoping to send Shekhar Gupta 1 lac tweets - so that he knows that the people of Mumbai do not want the Coastal Road but want better public transport and a pollution free city.
Thank you for your help.
