Dear Citizens,
Thank you once again for signing this petition. Today we have won a big battle in the war against mindless and reckless development at the cost of the environment.
The Bombay High Court has passed its judgement and upheld our contentions that the work on Mumbai Coastal Road is illegal and has proceeded so far without Environmental Clearance, Wild Life Clearance and that the CRZ clearance was granted without proper application of mind.
Chief Justice Nandrajog and Justice Jamdar said in their court order today:
"The Courts have to strike a balance and, thus have to approach the issue of conservation and human development as not an either/or proposition. How to resolve the two? In a manner when both can be bettered has to be the key to settle the debate. ...the traditional concept that development and ecology are opposed to each other is no longer acceptable and that sustainable development is the answer."
