Hi all, apologies for late update. Been really busy catching up on campaign stuff after a couple of days away.
I was highly delighted with the debate and how it went. Obviously the minister could have done better but .....
There was a meeting offered to interested MP to meet with the minister to discuss the topic. I do hope she listens better than she did at the debate.
You will have seen Helen Jones magnificent speeches on the last update I think. She really was incredible. I feel we have an ally there.
There was cross party support for a change in firework law especially from Scotland who will have a consultation next year on the subject.
The government say they won't commit to anything until they have looked at the data. Sadly the home office do not collect data re firework misuse. Other services all log their incidents differently so that would be impossible to collate into anything usable. In all, I am unsure what data the government think they will find to help them make a decision.
If you are involved in any firework incidents please report it and get an incident number. You can log fireworks you hear from your home on this FAB log ..bit.ly/fireworklog that is giving us some idea of random firework use. If it is an incident with an animal please call RSPCA who will give you advice. If it is a horse log it with the BHS , https://www.bhs.org.uk/our-work/safety/report-an-incident
If we don't tell them , they say they don't know about the issues.
If you haven't seen it, this is the link to the Hansard report of the debate and attached is the video link too.
