Investigate USD42 Million Fire Trucks

The Issue

The Zambian government through the ministry of Local Government and Housing awarded a tender for the supply and delivery of 42 fire fighting trucks at a contract sum of USD42 million translating to $1 million per truck. This procurement was ridiculously high and we believe it was awarded without paying much attention to public needs.

It has now been revealed that these same vehicles with same specifications would have been delivered at a landed cost of $350,000.

We are therefore petitioning the office of Public Protector to look into the failures of the ZPPA to protect the public from the exorbitant tender.

We also want the ministry of local government to renegotiate this contract so as to save the poor Zambians from paying more than $22 million above the true cost of this equipment.
