Redevelopment Model

The development and expansion of National assets is important to our growth as a country. The right development model can inspire hope and confidence in a people. It can create a unified force that says yes we can and inspire a generation to greatness. Bahamians welcome the Government's interest in addressing the redevelopment of the Cruise Port; however, The Ports design and ownership must be Bahamian!

A cruise port development model that proposes to give 49% to foreign ownership with 25yrs of concessions while using Bahamian resources is a betrayal of Bahamian trust and regression of our progress since independence.  While we can benefit from world renowned port management expertise, Bahamians must resent the idea that we should hand over the management of our port back to our former Colonial masters for 25 yrs. Any foreign company that manages the cruise port, should do so with a view to handing over operations to a Bahamian in 5 yrs. This is similar to the airport (NAD) management process. Five years will be more than sufficient time to design and perfect an operational model. We can do better.

Our financial experts can design a number of financing mechanism to support this Bahamian design and ownership model. We should embrace every opportunity for those that build the tourism industry, like our hotel workers, taxi drivers and every day Bahamians to have investment opportunities. This process should not be about opportunities for the few at the expense of the many…this is our cruise port.

If your believe that Bahamians should retain ownership of the Cruise Port, That the time has come for us to be more inclusive in our growth and creating opportunities for our people, That we have a right to benefit from what resources God has blessed this country with then you should sign this partition, share it and make sure that every Bahamian has an opportunity to stand and be counted!! WE MUST STAND UP!!
