Allow the 836 Expressway extension to Kendall Drive and Miami Executive Airport

Allow the 836 Expressway extension to Kendall Drive and Miami Executive Airport
The Issue
Traffic is the most significant issue impacting the lives of residents in West Kendall, Southwest Kendall and West Dade (collectively known as the West End).
Reasons to support the 836 extension:
-Improves mobility for the residents of the West End
-Creates counter-flow traffic patterns in the morning and in the afternoon peak hours that will significantly reduce congestion
-The extension will encourage economic development by attracting employers to the area
-Allows for mass transit options such as express bus services, autonomous vehicles and the potential for commuter rail
The residents of the West End experience very long daily commute times, as the lack of employment centers within the District requires most residents to travel outside the area to go to work, which results in severely congested roads throughout the area.
The only logical and economically feasible alternative to reduce the volume of traffic and improve mobility for the residents of the West End is to extend SR 836 (Dolphin Expressway) from its current end point at NW 137th Avenue West to SW 167th Avenue and then South to Kendall Drive and then continue to Miami Executive Airport to serve the Country Walk community.
The West Kendall Corridor Planning Report and a report created by FIU indicate strong support by community residents for this extension.
Commissioner Juan C. Zapata is filing legislation that will amend the Comprehensive Development Master Plan (CDMP) to allow for transportation facilities outside of the Urban Development Boundary (UDB). This petition will support that effort.
Let’s Extend SR 836 for our Quality of Life and for the future of those of us who live in the West End of the County!
