Objection to the Application for a Liquor Licence at Royal Road, Grand Gaube
Objection to the Application for a Liquor Licence at Royal Road, Grand Gaube
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of Quartier des Lauriers, Calodyne and Grand Gaube, wish to formally object to the application for a liquor licence submitted by Mr Chandradeo MUCKOON of John Kennedy Street, Grand Gaube, for premises situated at Royal Road, Grand Gaube (opposite Grand Gaube Cemetery).
Our objection is based on the following grounds:
1/ Residential zoning and community well-being — the site is within a residential area, and a licensed liquor outlet would bring nuisance, noise, late-night disturbances and traffic congestion.
2/ Safety and security — liquor outlets are widely associated with increased crime, vandalism and theft in the surrounding area.
3/ Road safety — the site sits at a dangerous, accident-prone junction already flagged by the Ministry of Transport and the TRSU.
4/ Proximity to a place of worship — the premises are less than 400 metres from the Arya Mandir temple and Grand Gaube Cemetery.
By signing below, we ask the Licensing Committee of the Mauritius Revenue Authority to refuse this application, in the interest of preserving the health, safety and peace of the residents of Calodyne and Grand Gaube.
