Important Petition Update – Things Are Accelerating

Dear Friends,

Firstly, thank you to every one of the 702 people who signed our petition. Your support has already made a difference, and things are now beginning to accelerate very quickly.

We have already had a small but important success. The petition was officially accepted over the counter at the council offices — and we videoed the moment it happened. Shortly afterwards, council granted a minor concession by agreeing to retain the Emporium. While this is encouraging, they are still continuing forward with their much larger development plans.

To many of us, this makes very little financial or practical sense. The proposed changes would cost the council a significant amount of money to replace a system that is already working successfully, efficiently, and economically here on Springbrook.

As we now approach the deadline for the “Have Your Say” consultation regarding the future Great Springbrook Plan, it has become increasingly urgent that we perhaps broaden and redirect our focus.

Over the past week, several newspaper announcements have raised serious new concerns, including:

• Springbrook Mt Zip line lagest in World

The proposed use of drone taxis to ferry tourists and visitors up the mountain during the 2036 Olympics
• The possible establishment of a high-altitude Olympic training facility for cyclists and marathon runners at Eaglemont
• Increased tourism infrastructure in and around this precious World Heritage environment

With your permission, I intend to submit our group for formal consultation as representatives of the 702 people who signed this petition — people who clearly care deeply about their homes, livelihoods, community, and the preservation of this beautiful World Heritage site.

Unless I receive a significant number of objections, I will move forward with this representation on behalf of the group. I understand many people are busy and may not have time to reply, so if I do not hear otherwise, I will take this as your consent to proceed.

At the same time, if any member of this group would like to step forward to help represent the wider community, please let me know. Additional voices and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I would also like to maintain ongoing consultation with all supporters. To help achieve this, I propose creating an email group where we can:

• Share updates and information
• Discuss developments as they happen
• Seek community opinions and input
• Keep everyone informed about what is really occurring with these plans moving forward

Would any of you also be interested in attending a community meeting regarding this issue?

Thank you again for caring enough to stand up for Springbrook. Together, we can ensure that the people who live here — and those who love this place — continue to have a real voice in its future.

Warm regards,
Shé D’Montford
