Allowing any cannabis store in UNA/UEL/UBC is risky for minors' well-being and is a no win UEL public policy. An Easy access of Cannabis store in UBC/UEL/UNA will not add on too much accessibility for those already consuming cannabis, contradictory will be easy for NEW cannabis consumers. Moreover, an Easy access Cannabis store in which a high volume of minors pass by daily, contravenes the purpose of Cannabis Act :”to protect the health of young persons by restricting their access to cannabis” and it also releases a welcome invitation signal, especially for vulnerable youth, who try to be impressed under peer pressure. By today, there are 1372 individuals who have signed the petition ( https://www.change.org/STOPcannabisstoreinUBC ) with the most comment of concerning the well being of minors, if you have not signed the petition, please join us, share this petition and write a letter to the UEL office ( planuel@gov.bc.ca) to oppose.
UEL has this “Cannabis retail space police 5.4.31“ in Area D neighbourhood plan of UEL, apparently this contravenes it’s objective of “Attract and retain local business” and is a no-win public policy for local business. In the scenario of a good cannabis store business, that area will be gathering a cluster of consumers only for cannabis, on the other hand, a bad cannabis store business, the surrounding business already jeopardized by losing customers that oppose cannabis stores.
