Cllr Andrea Berardi writes:

“We need your help to protect our heritage - and this time, it’s a crucial turning point.

As a Runnymede councillor, I’m backing the Friends of Christ Church Longcross in their campaign to ensure our planning system upholds the legal protections for listed buildings - protections that have been ignored and undermined for far too long.

After months of grassroots legal work, the campaign has secured a major breakthrough: Runnymede Borough Council has agreed to reconsider enforcement action under a High Court settlement, and this time with input from an independent heritage advisor.

This is a huge step - but to make it count, we must ensure councillors have a clear legal framework and expert advice to guide their decision.

These funds will:

- Ensure planning committee members are fully briefed on the legal duties surrounding listed buildings

- Make sure enforcement decisions are made transparently, lawfully, and with respect for heritage

- Help set a national precedent for protecting historic buildings from unlawful and irreversible alteration

Every pound helps protect this beautiful church and the rule of law that should protect *all* heritage assets.”

We have also heard from other supporters who have written:

  • “well done you guys and just donated £25 to the cause. it’s appreciated for all your time and effort.”
  • “thank you. I appreciate your fight, and determination.”
  • “thank you for your continued dedication to resolving the issues regarding Longcross Church, it is greatly appreciated!”

A former choir boy at the church writes:

"Not least of my concerns is the Installation of the most hideous WHITE UPVC WINDOWS!! which I know are not approved in listed buildings conversions.

Also, what has happened to the original beautiful stained glass windows?

How sad, that we have to look at the outside of this once beautiful church which is so not in keeping with the life that this fine church once had.”

Please consider to donate to help us achieve our target - it would be hugely appreciated! 🙏
