Thanks to everyone who has signed, we now have over 540 signatures! Deadline is March 1st, 3 days away, to submit the petition to the Church Commissioners.

We have had some questions sent in asking for a few clarifications regarding the church and the Longcross Garden Village and are sharing the answers here:

1) Who is proposing to buy the church and convert it into 5 flats?

An independent builder, Mr Gary Humphreys, is proposing to buy the church and convert it into 5 flats, as per publicly available information from the Runnymede Planning Portal applications RU.18/0620 and RU.18/0621.

2) Who is developing the Longcross Garden Village?

Crest Nicholson is a British housebuilding company based in Chertsey which has developed Upper Longcross and is developing the proposals for the Longcross Garden Village which will bring over 1,700 dwellings on the brownfield former DERA site.

3) Who currently owns the church?

The church is owned by the Diocese of Guildford.

4) Who currently owns the former DERA (Defence Evaluation and Research Agency) site?

The former DERA site is owned jointly by Crest Nicholson and Aviva.

5) Will the church be located in the proposed Longcross Garden Village?

Yes. Runnymede council define the Longcross Garden Village in the draft local plan 2030 as including the church within its boundaries. The majority of the development site comprises the former DERA site which the church directly borders.
