Hi everyone, First and foremost, thank you so much for signing this petition and being a part of something so important. Our initial hopes were to reach 700 signatures as a representation of the roughly 700 conservatory students enrolled at Oberlin, and you have done so much more! The next goal is to keep signing and sharing until we reach 3,000. A representation of the entire student body of Oberlin College & Conservatory gathering together in support of Draylen Masons life, legacy, and the continual support of artists of color in the industry. Some updates on where we stand: We've reached out to Draylen's family for their blessing to create a fund for artists of color in his name. This is an action to honor his life, first and foremost. CNN have also been in contact in regards to the petition, and they are hoping to run a story about it within the next 48 hours. We are shedding light on the struggle for greater representation of people of color in classical music, and by that alone our petition is making an impact! The idea moving forward is to speak to Oberlin Conservatory itself, as well as discuss possible ways to create a new fund, should the family wish to move forward with this. It will be no small feat, but showing the world that we wholeheartedly stand behind the promoting of color in the arts, and are actively participating in it is something worth being a part of! Thank you so much, Joshua
