Delicias Tainas, at the Moore Street Market, is unique. It offers traditional Puerto Rican cuisine inspired be the Taino people indigenous to the Caribbean and reminds us of our great grandma's cooking! It is also the only remaining Puerto Rican owned business at the Moore Street Market. Mr. Rivera has been an important part of our community over the years. In addition to his food business, he has been instrumental in countless community efforts such as his community based organization Bushwick Sports, as a member of various community organizations, and as a community assistant at former State Senator Nellie R.Santiago's office. The NYC Economic Development Agency has asked him to vacate the premises by January 16, 2015 and he is looking for community support to stay open. The only reason provided to Delicias Tainas is that they have an expired lease. However, everyone's lease is up or being renegotiated with new management and not everyone is being asked to leave. Also, the order to vacate came from NYCEDC and not from a lawyer or a court order, making their threat to lock us out illegal.
