Yesterday afternoon, a Montreal superior court judge temporarily suspended the pit bull ban, so that the SPCA can follow through with their lawsuit, seeking to repeal the new pit bull ban bylaw. We were only able to celebrate for a few hours before Mayor Denis Coderre declared that Montreal will appeal this decision, and continue to fight to enact the pit bull ban. That board declared that a breed ban would not help to keep people more safe. The Mayor has not listened to any of his council members who showed scientific evidence that breed bans don't work. The Mayor won't listen to any groups or veterinarians who say that breed bans won't benefit anyone, and only punish thousands of good dog owners and innocent dogs.
