Actualización de la peticiónHalt the Destruction of Harlem's Historic Renaissance CasinoNY Times story on the "development"

19 dic 2014 — http://www.nytimes.com/…/in-harlem-renaissance-theater-is-a… We are struck, having read this, by the tone of resignation expressed by the church and it''s agents. Taking this small minded approach, the visionary Rev. Dr. A. Clayton Powell Sr.would have never uprooted his entire congregation from the hostile environs of the "Tenderloin" and transported it to Harlem, the promiseland. He apparently believed, as did my late grandmother, that "There is no such thing as can't......where there is a will, there is a way". To periphrase another great Christian, "the path up the mountain is rocky, if it was smooth you couldn't climb it." No one is making light of the challenges facing the developer, who by all appearances, is very, very close to Abysinnian/ADC. Perhaps the most powerful African American congregation in the country, they are the community's spiritual "nobility"; and their burden is the "Noblesse Obige"-"to whom much is given, much is expected". They have indeed, been given unbridled control of a vital cultural cornerstone, and with that comes an affirmative duty to serve, not just the interests of the congregation, but that of the global Harlem community, as well. The developer may have garnered the right to destroy this iconic structure through a glitch in the landmarking process, but that does not make this course of action the right thing to do. The community rightly deserve better of its "nobility". Please join us and sign and support the attached petition seeking to halt this process. https://lnkd.in/dhSGJAm
