Petition updateHalt the Destruction of Harlem's Historic Renaissance CasinoThe Historic Renaissance Casino Demolished

Roughly two weeks ago, in the days leading up to Resurrection Sunday, the hotly contested demolition of the Renny commenced. It has now been entirely flattened, as the developer, BRP begins construction of the residential/commercial mix that it will call "The Renny".
In a nod to community pressure, in part I suspect due to this petition, BRP has modified its original design to incorporate stylistic flourishes from its predecessor.
The whole tragic arc of the Renny's stewardship over the past 30 years clearly highlights the need for tighter accountability on the part of developers both commercial and clerical, who undertake the development of irreplaceable community cultural assets.
An account of this sad affair was published in the April 12 issue of the New York Times. I would encourage interested parties to continue dialogue there in their letters column, and for locals, please make your displeasure known to your community board and other elected officials.
This petition will be formally closed down on Friday April,17th 2015.
Thank you for your support!
