By now I'm sure you've heard: yesterday, during his second State of the City address, Mayor de Blasio announced a $55 million capital commitment towards building a comprehensive 5-borough ferry system that would “knit together existing East River routes with new landings and services to Astoria, the Rockaways, Southern Brooklyn, Soundview and the Lower East Side.”
And one of the new ferry stops will be right here in BAY RIDGE! Back at the 69th Street Pier just like it was many years ago.
The new 5-borough ferry network will cost the same as a ride on the subway and will officially launch in 2017.
There is still plenty of work to be done before everything is up and running but this is HUGE NEWS for all of us who have fought for permanent ferry service for so long.
If you'd like to stay informed about more ferry news, please email me at jbrannan@council.nyc.gov and I'll add you to our mailing list.
Thanks for all you do!
