We have been putting pressure on the MTA to subsidize shuttle service to the ferry at 58th Street - so far to no avail. Simply put, the MTA just doesn't see the 14+ month Montague Street tunnel closure as a big deal. They feel the various existing transfer options within the system are adequate.
We have also asked the MTA to, among other things, slash & subsidize express bus fares and add more trains but they are just not interested. That said, we will keep trying; we're not giving up!
In the meantime, Councilman Gentile has worked to secure a private company (fully-insured and licensed by DOT and TLC) to provide a $2 shuttle service to and from the pier at 58th Street during AM & PM rush hour.
The shuttle will make stops along 4th Avenue near the R stations and deliver everyone to the pier in time for the ferry. For more information on this shuttle service, please contact Councilman Gentile's office at 718-748-5200 or by emailing jbrannan@council.nyc.gov
Thanks!
