Problem
The chain food stores use full size shopping bags ( 1 1/4 barrel ) and these bags are used for all the sales large and small sales, 10 items or 1 item sales. Which produces a huge absence amounts of plastic waste you can sea in our dumps, wastelands, oceans...
While there are half size bags which you never see at groceries or food stores check out counters. Uses half the amount of plastic costs half the amount of money.

Solution
The food store should start using small bags ( 1 1/2 barrels ) which is plenty enough for a single or double sales , even could take up to 7 items depending on what you buying. And it will reduce the amount of plastic waste significantly. The big stores may find it attractive if they realized how much money they can save using half size bags.

Personal story
My 16 years old daughter kept pushing me not to put single items in a huge bag at my food store ( 3 counters) only. As determined and convincing her arguments were I started looking for solution for the problem as I can’t tell the customer they don’t need bags when they buy one or two items. But we can reduce the amount of plastic waste by using a small plastic bags. After using these bags for 6 months I found that my business saved 209 dollars / a month. Which means big store can save big bucks using these bags.and still help save our beaches and environment.
