Why this petition matters

Started by Jolon Bentley

There needs to be a change with how premiership rings are distributed to NRL winning players. Year after year there are players that have been in a premiership winning team that have been in the long, hard grind throughout the season and have missed out on the final game due to various reasons such as injury, suspension, or selection.

The NRL need to come up with a better way to reward players who miss out on grand finals and maybe put a rule in place to say that if you’ve contributed a certain amount of games to the team throughout the year (18 as an example) you get a ring as well as the grand final 17, for being part of that premiership winning team. If they need to reduce the amount of money spent on each ring to cater for a few more rings being distributed then so be it, as it’s more about the sentimental value of being a premiership winner rather than the value of the ring itself.

Given how hard the game is played with injuries being inevitable, how easy it is to get a suspension these days and the varying player roles teams have for different games, situations and opponents, it doesn’t sit right that players such as Steve Price, Isaac Luke and Zane Tetevano to name a few (and could have happened to Cooper Cronk due to injury in 2018), weren’t given ‘their own’ premiership rings as a reward for the huge contribution they gave their teams in winning the premiership.

Please sign this petition to get the NRL to think about changing the way Premiership rings are distributed and do the right thing for the players who sacrifice just as much as the 17 players who run out on grand final day.
