Lucan, Athas, Fryday Vote for a Request for Proposals from Developers for the Hamilton Town Center

A council majority voted last night to direct city staff to issue Requests for Proposals for developers for the Hamilton Town Center, Commissary Site, Hamilton Gym & Parking Lot, Officer's Club and BBQ. Pat Eklund and Pam Drew tried to make motions that would remove the Hamilton Town Center from the RFP process but were voted against by Eric Lucan, Denise Athas and Josh Fryday. I presented our 400 plus petition signatures and 200 comments but by the speed and coordination of the vote, it appeared that the three council members would not be swayed and had already decided to support the staff recommendation. With the RFP process, if a developer is identified, there will be public hearings for input. We were just hoping to keep this project off of the path for sale and preserved for community use. I believe that Avesta is waiting in the wings with the proposal for high density housing and parking that it tried to negotiate in closed session earlier this year.
